Mahindra BE7
Mahindra's upcoming BE 7 electric SUV has been spotted once again, with the latest photographs offering a closer look at its exterior design and some interesting equipment details. This time, the camouflaged test vehicle was spotted plugged into a public charging station in Karnataka, reportedly around Bengaluru.
The latest sighting provides a better understanding of Mahindra's next Born Electric SUV, which is expected to join the BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S in the company's expanding electric vehicle portfolio.
While Mahindra has not announced an official launch date, the BE 7 is expected to reach the Indian market in 2027.
Mahindra BE 7: A Larger Electric SUV With a Distinct Identity
The BE 7 is expected to sit above the BE 6 in Mahindra's electric SUV lineup. Unlike the coupe-inspired BE 6, the upcoming model follows a more conventional SUV silhouette, with an upright stance, a prominent C-pillar and a relatively large glasshouse.
The latest spy photographs reveal a test vehicle wearing white-and-violet camouflage. Its overall proportions suggest a larger and more substantial SUV than the BE 6.
The charging port is positioned on the rear-left quarter panel, following a layout seen on other Mahindra Electric Origin models.
The production model is expected to retain several design elements from the original BE.07 concept, although final specifications and styling details remain unconfirmed.
Frameless Doors and Fully Motorised Pop-Out Handles
One of the most interesting details revealed by the latest spy shots is the use of frameless doors.
This design element is relatively uncommon in mainstream Indian passenger vehicles and could give the BE 7 a more premium appearance.
The window mechanism is also expected to automatically lower the glass slightly when the door opens and raise it again after the door closes, a feature commonly associated with frameless door designs.
Another notable detail is the door handle mechanism. Unlike the electrically operated flush handles seen on some existing Mahindra models, the BE 7's handles appear to pop out completely through a motorised mechanism.
This is a small but meaningful distinction. It suggests Mahindra is exploring more sophisticated exterior hardware for its upcoming premium electric SUV.
C-Shaped LED Lighting and Other Exterior Highlights
The test vehicle features prominent C-shaped lighting signatures at the front and rear, consistent with the Born Electric design language.
Other visible exterior elements include:
• Angular body panels and prominent wheel arches
• Clamshell-style bonnet and tailgate
• Sporty rear spoiler
• Chunky front and rear bumpers
• Upright windscreen
• Rear wiper integrated near the spoiler
The latest photographs also show two camera units positioned around the rear spoiler area. These could be related to a digital interior rear-view mirror, although their exact purpose has not been confirmed.
Triple-Screen Dashboard and Technology-Focused Cabin
Inside, the BE 7 is expected to follow the technology-focused approach seen in Mahindra's latest Electric Origin SUVs.
Previous spy shots have revealed a three-screen dashboard layout, potentially comprising a digital instrument cluster, central infotainment display and a dedicated passenger screen.
The cabin is expected to share some elements with the BE 6 and XEV 9e, while receiving its own dashboard and interior treatment.
Other expected equipment includes:
• Ventilated front seats
• Powered front seats
• Harman audio system with a reported 16-speaker configuration
• Adrenox connected vehicle technology
• Level 2+ ADAS
• Ambient lighting
• Automatic parking assistance
These features are expected rather than officially confirmed for the production model.
Battery, Range and Performance: What to Expect
Mahindra is likely to use its INGLO electric architecture for the BE 7, which also underpins the BE 6, XEV 9e and XEV 9S.
The upcoming SUV could share battery options with other models in the Electric Origin portfolio. However, the exact battery capacities and powertrain configurations have not been announced.
The latest report suggests possible battery options of 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh. A rear-wheel-drive configuration is expected, while a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version could also be considered.
A claimed driving range approaching 700 km and a real-world range of around 500 km have been discussed in the spy-shot coverage. These figures should be treated as expectations, not confirmed specifications.
The final range will depend on battery capacity, vehicle weight, motor configuration and Mahindra's production-specification decisions.
Where Will the Mahindra BE 7 Fit in India's EV Market?
The BE 7 could become an important product for Mahindra because it expands the company's electric portfolio into a larger, more conventional SUV body style.
The BE 6 has established a distinctive coupe-inspired design identity, while the XEV 9e and XEV 9S address buyers looking for different combinations of premium design, space and practicality.
The BE 7 could appeal to customers who want the technology and performance of Mahindra's INGLO platform but prefer a more traditional SUV silhouette.
Its expected competitive set could include the Tata Harrier EV and VinFast VF7, depending on its final pricing and positioning.
However, the biggest challenge will be differentiation within Mahindra's own portfolio. With multiple products sharing the same underlying electric architecture, the BE 7 will need to justify its position through design, cabin experience, space, equipment and pricing.
VahanWarta's Take
The latest BE 7 sighting reveals an interesting direction for Mahindra's electric SUV strategy.
Rather than relying only on aggressive styling and performance-oriented positioning, Mahindra appears to be developing a more conventional and potentially family-oriented electric SUV without compromising on premium design elements.
Frameless doors, fully motorised pop-out handles and a triple-screen dashboard suggest that Mahindra wants the BE 7 to offer a more upmarket experience.
But features alone will not determine its success.
The more important questions will be its real-world driving range, rear-seat comfort, charging performance, software reliability and, most importantly, pricing.
As India's electric SUV market becomes increasingly competitive, the BE 7 will need to offer a convincing ownership proposition rather than just an impressive feature list.
Would you choose the BE 7's conventional SUV design over the sportier coupe-inspired BE 6?
BE 7 will be built on INGLO Architecture:
BE 7 will be built on the INGLO architecture, sharing its underlying platform with the BE 6, XEV 9S and XEV 9E. So, we can expect the same battery pack and motor configurations to be retained, with 59kWh and 79kWh options and 10–80% charging in under 25 minutes, with a compatible charger. Power and torque figures are yet to be determined, as it remains to be seen whether Mahindra will retain the same state of tune or tune it differently for the BE 7.
